The First Day of Fall!

One of our friends shares a fall leaf on the first day of fall.  I uploaded our First Day of Fall video using a service that automatically offers "related" videos at the end of the clip.  None of these videos have anything to do with me or our class and shouldn't be associated with our kindergarten blog.  Enjoy the kindergarten video show and tell!

We are the KEYS Award Winner this Week!

Our class was chosen during GMT (Good Morning Taylor) to be the KEYS award winner for the yellow pod this week.  The KEYS award is given to a class who demonstrates KEYS behavior in the hallway:
K - Keep your hands down
E - Eyes forward
Y - Your voices off
S - Slow and steady walk
This year our KEYS award is a super glittery rock guitar!  Here are some pictures of us with our KEYS award.  Mrs. Gallagher is in some of the pictures and our student teacher, Ms. Pusl is in some of the pictures.

Congratulate your child on his great behavior in the hallway that helped us earn our award! :)

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

We have been having a great time with the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!  Here are a few pictures of the kids having fun learning in the literacy centers.  Some friends are matching upper and lower case letters on Chicka Boom tree shapes, some friends are acting out the book with our very own Chicka Boom tree, other friends are making the letters in their name march up a Chicka Boom tree, and still other friends are matching friends' names and pictures to complete our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom poem.  We also have friends practicing Word Wall words on the dry erase board, or learning letter sounds on the computer.  If your child would like to visit http://www.starfall.com/ at home, it is a great ABC site.  Be sure to talk to your child about the fun activities he has been doing at school with letters and names.

Ms. Pusl Observed Today

Hooray!  We will get to have a student teacher in our room starting September 13th.  She came to observe our classroom today and will return tomorrow for another day of observation.  Her name is Ms. Pusl (pronounced Poo-zel; not Ms. Poodle as some of our friends thought!).  We are so fortunate to have her as a student teacher.  I have known her personally for over five years and she has taught preschool for five or six years.  We had a great day learning today in kindergarten!

First Day of Kindergarten - HUGE Success!!!!!

I love your kids!!!!  We had an amazing first day of school together.  What an amazing group.  They did such a great job listening as we practiced all of our procedures.  They drew a great picture about what they did to get ready for school today after we read the book Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten.  The picture is in the pocket of their STAR binder.

Today our class got to go to PE for specials and their specials schedule is in their STAR binder.  That might be a fun conversation starter for "dinner talk" tonight.  There is also a class list in the STAR binder so you can ask your child if he/she remembers some friends from today.

I can't wait for tomorrow! :)
